Our team at City Truck Equipment can do either. For customers not wanting to track down their own inventory, we have chassis already on the ground that can be used, and can also purchase new chassis on the customer’s behalf. Thanks to our direct relationships with OEM’s and dealers across the country, we can typically source and procure chassis much faster than the average buyer! Learn more about our acquisition options here.
City Truck Equipment offers four procurement options: outright purchase, rental, Rental Purchase Options (RPOs) that lets customers apply a portion of rental payments toward eventual ownership, and sale & leaseback through a customer’s financing partner. This flexibility lets customers match the procurement structure to their budget, capex cycle, and timeline. Learn more about our procurement options here.
A Rental Purchase Option, or RPO, is a procurement arrangement that lets a customer rent an upfitted truck in the short term and then apply a portion of the rental payments toward purchasing the unit if they decide to keep it. Unlike traditional lease to own structures there is no forced buyout at the end of the term. RPOs are commonly used by companies that want to test a new upfit configuration in the field before committing, or that need to bridge a gap in cap-ex budgets while still putting trucks to work.

City Truck Equipment and City Rent a Truck are sister companies operating under the parent company City Fleet Group. The two companies work together to proved a comprehensive fleet solution to their customers. While City Truck Equipment specializes in commercial vehicle upfitting and custom work truck builds, City Rent a Truck focuses on commercial truck and van rentals, rental purchase programs, and fleet acquisition. Together, the two companies help customers source, customize, rent, and purchase work-ready vehicles through a single, coordinated team.
City Truck Equipment is a ship-through upfitter?
Ship-to is a logistics process where a chassis is shipped directly from the OEM to the upfitter at no additional cost. Once the upfit is complete, the finished vehicle is delivered directly to the customer by the upfitter instead of going back into the OEM transport network like you would see in a traditional ship through logisitics model.
Compared to Ship-Through, Ship-To often significantly reduces transportation delays, provides greater visibility into logistics timing, and gets work-ready vehicles into service faster. Learn more about ship-to vs ship through upfitting here.
City Truck Equipment partners with a range of established truck body and work-equipment manufacturers, including Reading, CM Truck Beds, Eby, Duraclass, Buyers Products, Vanair, Whelen, Weather Guard, Tommy Gate, Leer, Decked, Curt, Fill-Rite, and CTECH, among others. Working with multiple partners allows for us to specify the manufacturer or component brand best suited to each customer’s application, duty cycle, and budget.
City Truck Equipment offers a turnkey upfit process with four stages: source, spec, build, and deliver. Our team has the ability to source and purchase the chassis on the customer’s behalf, works with the customer to engineer the exact right upfit specifications, executes the build at one of our facilities, and then delivers the finished vehicle anywhere in the continental United States. Our single-vendor workflow is designed to remove the coordination work involved in lining up a multiple vendors separately.
City Truck Equipment builds upfits for fleets of any size, from single-vehicle orders through large fleet deployments. The same engineering process and procurement options (outright purchase, rental, Rental Purchase Option, or sale to a customer’s financing partner) are available regardless of order volume.
Yes. City Truck Equipment assigns each customer an individual account manager who serves as the single point of contact through the upfit process, covering chassis sourcing, spec development, build progress, and delivery. The single-contact model is intended to keep complex builds and multi-unit fleet orders coordinated without the customer having to chase multiple departments or vendors.
City Truck Equipment serves commercial fleets in construction, electrical contracting, plumbing and HVAC, telecom, utilities, oil and gas, infrastructure, renewable energy, general contracting, municipal services, and more. Our product mix is built around the work-vehicle needs common to our core industries.
