As our sister company, City Rent a Truck, grew, we kept running into the same brutal reality: waiting 6 to 12 months—sometimes longer—for upfits from outside vendors. We were paying for trucks that were just sitting in a yard, generating zero revenue. The delays were killing our momentum and hurting our bottom line.
So, we took matters into our own hands and began upfitting our fleet in-house.
We launched the upfitting arm to control two critical things: timeline and quality. Our goal was simple: get trucks job-ready faster and done right the first time. Our team got good at it. Really good.
As our rental fleet grew, so did our upfitting operation. We took on more complex builds, handled custom requests, and stress-tested them in the toughest environment possible: rental. And the upfits held up—again and again. That’s when we knew we had something bigger.
Word got out. Other companies started coming to us with their own fleet upfit requests. Eventually, the demand became impossible to ignore—so we spun off City Truck Equipment as a standalone operation, dedicated to helping companies take control of their own fleet timelines and performance, just like we did.

Our experience building City Rent a Truck’s incredibly diverse rental fleet pushed us to master a wide range of upfit configurations.
